At the heart of every successful film production is a team of professionals who work tirelessly behind the scenes. These individuals bring creative visions to life, often without receiving the recognition they deserve. That’s why Discover Dunwoody created the Distinguished Production Associate Recognition Program, a monthly initiative that shines a spotlight on the unsung heroes of the film and entertainment industry.

For the month of June, we are proud to honor Slean Peavy, a Dunwoody native whose career is a testament to passion, perseverance, and the power of storytelling.

Slean's journey began on Mt. Vernon Way in Dunwoody, Georgia, where his childhood was filled with imagination. Whether he was pretending to be an Army man, Jedi, or superhero, the seeds of a future in entertainment were planted early. His passion took a more defined shape in third grade during a school production of “Oliver!” led by the Alliance Theatre. That experience introduced him to the excitement of musical theatre and sparked a lifelong love for the arts.

Throughout his time at Marist School, Slean embraced the stage by joining the Thespian Society and taking on lead roles in productions like “Pippin,” “Man of La Mancha,” and “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” He continued his artistic development at the University of Georgia, where he studied performance arts through the Fine Arts program.

Although Slean originally planned to move straight to Los Angeles after graduation, life took him in a different direction. While working in management years later, he met professionals in Atlanta’s fast-growing film industry who offered him a chance to work on his first production. That opportunity came in 2018 on “Goosebumps 2,” where he served as a Location Coordinator. From that moment forward, he knew he had found his place in the industry.

Over the past three years, Slean has worked on a wide range of productions across Georgia. His impressive list of credits includes work with Marvel Studios on “Loki,” “She-Hulk,” “Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” and “Echo.” He has also contributed to “Red One” with MGM Studios, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” with Sony Pictures, and most recently “Peacemaker” Season 2 with DC Studios and James Gunn.

In addition to his production work, Slean plays a leadership role within the Location Managers Guild International (LMGI) as the Regional Executive for Region 2, which covers the Southern USA and South America. In this position, he advocates for location professionals and collaborates with film commissions to attract more productions to the United States, especially Georgia.

One of his recent accomplishments involved scouting for a major studio project alongside a fellow location manager. Their work successfully demonstrated the benefits of filming in Georgia compared to international locations. That production wrapped in 2024 and is scheduled for release in theaters next year.

Looking to the Future

Slean continues to build a career rooted in both creativity and professionalism. In the years ahead, he is excited to take on more complex, large-scale productions that span multiple locations. His long-term goal is to transition into production and eventually become a Line Producer, helping lead major film projects from concept to completion.

Slean Peavy’s story reflects what is possible when a childhood dream meets real-world determination. His work not only contributes to the success of global productions but also helps raise the profile of Georgia and Dunwoody as premier destinations for filmmaking.

Discover Dunwoody is proud to recognize professionals like Slean who represent the talent, passion, and innovation driving today’s entertainment industry.
