In Dunwoody, Georgia, you can fly like a butterfly or give butterfly kisses. But zip lining at Treetop Quest and the Dunwoody Nature Center's Butterfly Festival only skim the surface of all the things you can do in Dunwoody, just 10 miles above Atlanta.
The Dunwoody Nature Center is a must - think interactive playground in the open woods, hammocks and tree swings, a bubbling brook. It's basically a fairytale forest right inside our city, and it's free to boot. After that, take the family to Village Burger and order everyone the cheeseburger and the fries and the milkshake - because calories don't count on the weekends. We're minutes away from the all the great things to do in Atlanta, like the Georgia Aquarium and Zoo Atlanta. Read our blog for more suggestions on things to do with kids in and around Dunwoody.
A little more about that Butterfly Festival: This rain-or-shine event is for kids and adults alike, a wondrous spectacle with hundreds of colorful butterflies, a Birds of Prey show and a reptile showcase. And we haven't even talked about Apple Cider Days or Lemonade Days, two annual Dunwoody festivals with carnival rides, games and other family fun. You could also see an unforgettable show at Stage Door Theatre You could browse an art exhibit at Spruill Gallery. Or volunteer at one of many organizations who do good around Dunwoody. You're invited to all of it, so mark your calendar and make your way to Dunwoody.
Shopping really is a modern-day treasure hunt! And you'll find keepsakes and souvenirs as good as gold here. Perimeter Mall, which boasts more than 1.5 million square feet of today's hottest stores and brands, offers some of the best shopping around Atlanta. Go beyond the mall in Dunwoody Village and Perimeter Place where you can get lost among the pretties at specialty shops and boutiques like Under the Pecan Tree and Enchanted Forest. MARTA public transportation makes getting around easy, so nearby Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza in Atlanta are all within reach. Indulge at any of our top-notch restaurants, many of them locally-owned. You could even make it a girls' day out with some time at the spa and a glass of wine or two at Vino Venue. Then back to the mall, because there's no way ya'll covered 1.5 million square feet that fast.
Remember the zip lining we mentioned above? Take the plunge. The Treetop Quest obstacle and zip lining course is located right inside Dunwoody's beloved Brook Run Park, so you'll want to pack a picnic for afterward. Go running in one of our many other local parks, dotted with playgrounds and crisscrossed with beautiful creeks, hiking paths and biking trails. Or just chill in a hammock garden at the Dunwoody Nature Center. Whatever your adventure style, we've got miles of green space and plenty of fresh air to go around.
