Location: Brook Run Park

Bring your kids and their bikes for a fun, free, hands-on Bike Safety Rodeo—an interactive event designed to build confidence and teach safe riding habits in a playful, welcoming environment. This community event is perfect for children roughly ages 5 to 14 who can confidently ride a bike without training wheels.

What's Happening

  • Bike handling and safety skill stations
  • Learn road signs, hand signals, and basic traffic awareness
  • Ride through a fun skills and obstacle course
  • Helmet fit checks (free helmets available while supplies last)
  • Basic bike mechanical checks to ensure bikes are safe to ride
  • Meet local bike safety volunteers and police officers

Kids need to bring their own bikes and helmets, and participants will receive a formal Certificate of Completion signed by city officials. Snacks and refreshments will be available throughout the morning.

What to Bring

Also on Saturday, September 13, 2025/10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

Meet near the Brook Run Park Skate Park (across from the playground)

Immediately following the rodeo, join us for a fun and relaxed community bike ride along the scenic Dunwoody Trailway! This free, family-friendly ride is a great way to explore Dunwoody's connected parks and greenways—perfect for individuals, couples, and families looking to get outdoors and connect with neighbors.

Members of the Dunwoody Police Department and City Council will be riding along to support the event.

Schedule:
- 10:00 AM: Welcome & safety talk with Council Member Joe Seconder

- 10:15 AM: Group ride begins – a scenic 3.2-mile roundtrip through Brook Run Park, Pernoshal Park, and Georgetown Park

- 11:15 AM: Ride ends – stick around for post-ride refreshments and community fun!

All are welcome—from confident elementary-age riders to active adults of all generations. The pace will be easygoing, and the group will stay together throughout the ride.

Important notes:

- Children under age 14 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult throughout the ride

- This ride is not suitable for training wheels, scoot bikes, or tricycles

The route is approximately 3.2 miles roundtrip along a comfortable and beginner-friendly paved trail, much of it shaded and winding through wooded park areas. We'll ride at a relaxed, social pace, stopping along the way to highlight park amenities and share updates on future trail plans. The group will stay together, regrouping after trail crossings and at key points.

Community events like these are made possible by dedicated volunteers. If you're interested in helping out with either the Bike Rodeo or Community Bike Ride, please sign up through our volunteer portal: SignUpGenius Volunteer Link

These events are made possible with the support of the City of Dunwoody Parks & Recreation, Dunwoody Police Department, Safe Kids DeKalb, DeKalb Fire Rescue, and the Georgia Safe Routes to School Resource Center.

This is an exciting program where families come together to celebrate bike safety and enjoy Dunwoody's beautiful trail system. Both events are free to attend, but registration is required.
