A New Chapter, a New Music School

After 30 years in tech, most recently as head of CRM at Airbnb, Yael Lindenboim was ready for something different. She wanted a place to go, people to connect with and work that brought more creativity into her day.

A stand-up comedy class at the Punchline helped set the idea in motion. Preparing for a live audience gave her a firsthand look at how a performance can motivate someone to practice, take a risk and try something unfamiliar. When the opportunity to open School of Rock Dunwoody came along, that approach to learning felt like a fit.

Music Lessons That Lead to the Stage

School of Rock Dunwoody offers guitar, bass, drum, keyboard and vocal instruction, with programs for young children, teens and adults. Younger students can explore different instruments, while students in the band programs combine individual lessons with group rehearsals and live performances.

Learning your own part is one step. Listening to the other musicians, keeping time and playing a song together bring a different set of skills into the room. During the interview, Yael explains how the experience helps students grow more comfortable performing in front of an audience.

The school celebrated its grand opening with a music showcase in partnership with Create Dunwoody, giving students and other local musicians a chance to share the stage.

Adults Get a Turn on Stage, Too

Music lessons in Dunwoody are not just an after-school activity. The school's adult program welcomes people starting their first instrument, returning to music after a break or looking for others to play with.

For Yael, the opportunity to learn something new is part of the appeal at every age. A weekly lesson and band rehearsal can become time to focus on a creative project, meet people and work toward a live show together.

Team Building with a Different Sound

School of Rock Dunwoody also offers team jam sessions that bring coworkers together through music. Participants work with instructors to learn different parts of a song, rehearse as a group and perform together. Some may have played before; others may be holding an instrument for the first time.

Yael describes a session where one group learns the drum part while others work on guitar or another instrument. Everyone then comes together in a rehearsal room to hear how those individual parts fit into a song.

For companies planning meetings and team outings in Dunwoody, it is an opportunity to try something creative together outside the meeting room. The school uses a similar format for birthday parties. Contact the school directly to discuss a group experience.

Becoming Part of Dunwoody's Music Community

Yael credits Dunwoody's welcome as an important part of the school's beginning, from help with business permits and inspections to introductions through local events. The school has connected with the community at Lemonade Days, the Fourth of July parade and other gatherings, sometimes bringing an instrument petting zoo so people can try playing.

She also shares early ideas for a local talent event in 2027. Those discussions are still taking shape, but her enthusiasm for creating more places to play and perform is clear.

Keep exploring the city's creative side through Dunwoody's arts and culture experiences and the live music and concerts calendar.
