A Snapshot of the Film Slate Now in Georgia
In good news for the Peach State, it seems like Georgia is working its way back into steady business and is potentially ahead of the film and television pack across the country.
In mid-May, a Variety report entitled “Georgia Maintains Status as Top Production Hub in the Face of Industry Slowdowns” intimated that the state’s wealth of world-class production studios, locally based professional crew members, and of course – well-attended-to film tax incentive – mean that we’re all-systems-go for active productions.
Here are just a few of the projects filming in Georgia right now or getting ready to in the summer months to come. Note: it’s not only Georgia-based organizations and publications that are talking about the Peach State’s busy slate of productions. It’s Deadline, Variety, and pretty much everybody else across the country and around the world.
- "DTF St. Louis" - On May 27, in the parking lot of Dunwoody Village's open-air shopping center, residents spotted Jason Bateman and David Harbour filming scenes for HBO's limited series "DTF St. Louis." Described by Deadline as a dark comedic series, "DTF St. Louis" is from writer, director, and showrunner Steve Conrad ("The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and others). The storyline: what happens when a middle-aged love triangle goes terribly wrong.
- “Cape Fear” – The Apple TV+ series has been shooting at Doraville, Georgia’s Assembly Studios and around Midtown Atlanta’s High Museum of Art. The high-profile limited series from executive producer Steven Spielberg is directed by Martin Scorsese and stars Amy Adams and Javier Bardem. In the springtime build-up to the recent production, Project Casting (projectcasting.com) gave Georgia actors tips on how to join the cast in an item called “What Are the Best Audition Tips for Landing a Role on Cape Fear?”
- “The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shield” – Deadline reports that the feature film prison break thriller, written and directed by Tim Blake Nelson, is now shooting in Columbus, Georgia, and stars Amanda Seyfried and Scoot McNairy. Nelson is also reportedly part of the cast. Production in Columbus is expected to last through mid-June and is employing approximately 80 crew members, according to the “Ledger-Inquirer” in Columbus, which reported on the project on April 14, 2025.
- “By Any Means” – The historical thriller stars Mark Walberg and is reported to have wrapped shooting this month (May 2025) in Metro Atlanta, according to a report in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The New Hampshire Union Leader reported this about the film: “’By Any Means’ is set to begin production April 7 and run through May 15, according to an email sent to members of IATSE 479, which represents most crew members. The home base is Pangaea Studios, which used to be owned by Tyler Perry.” The Union Leader story also says, “’By Any Means’ is part of an uptick in business in Georgia, which has seen a recent flurry of films and TV shows with major stars attached including ‘The Good Daughter,’ Amazon’s ‘Judgment Day’ with Will Ferrell, ‘Madden’ with Nicolas Cage, Hulu’s ‘Murdaugh Murders’ with Patricia Arquette and ‘Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother’ with Mahershala Ali.”
If these sound like excellent film and television projects in Metro Atlanta and across the state, they’re only a handful of what’s in production here. Keep an eye on Funwoody to keep up-to-date – and if you’re a crew member or cast hopeful, to possibly get on the slate. Georgia is leading the industry again.
