Dunwoody sees “Action!” leading into springtime
As flowers bloom at the Dunwoody Nature Center, so do film and television productions across Georgia – including in amenity-rich and location-ready Dunwoody.
According to reports from the Georgia Film Office on March 5, 2025, there are currently 25 productions filming across the state. Among them, the following projects are either in production or soon to begin on the sound stages and backlots of Dunwoody’s neighboring Assembly Studios:
- “Beyond the Gates”; the daytime soap opera premiered Feb. 24, 2025, on CBS and is shooting some 20 scenes per day
- “Grosse Pointe Garden Society”; the NBC series about four garden club members hiding a ghastly secret in an upscale Michigan neighborhood is also in full swing for 2025
- “Murdaugh Murders”; the Hulu series set to begin production in March 2025 is based on the 2021 murders of Paul and Maggie Murdaugh in South Carolina
- “Cape Fear”; the TV series executive produced by Martin Scorsese is set to begin filming at Assembly Studios and will star Adam Adams and Javier Bardem; local union IATSE 429 reports crew member involvement scheduled from April 30, 2025, through Oct. 15, 2025
Of these productions and the ones that have come before, Kelly Murphy, director of client and production services at Universal Production Services at Assembly Studios, says, “Clients are excited to come to a brand new studio with on-site services, inside the perimeter, close to the airport, with experienced industry professionals to help them. They really enjoy the hotel and restaurant options in the area. We are so grateful for the support of Dunwoody in making the crews feel at home and welcome.”
The streets and communities of Dunwoody promise to see a strong share of on-location film action leading deeper into spring and summer, as well. According to Lee Thomas, the deputy commissioner of the Georgia Film Office at the Georgia Department of Economic Development in Atlanta, it’s expected that there will be a strong number of film and television productions to go around.
“We’re optimistic that filming will continue to pick up across the state,” Thomas says. “Georgia has all of the assets needed to support new and returning projects, from a stable incentive to world-class production facilities, as well as diverse locations, support service companies, and a well-trained crew base.”
She continues, “Productions find they can shoot just about any scene here, and the state’s temperate climate and overall quality of life continue to be a big draw.”
In addition, metro Atlanta communities offer everything from green spaces to historic homes, education and business settings, hotels and retail backdrops. In Dunwoody, for example, large Perimeter Mall was chosen as a location for 2024 film “Red One,” while Embassy Suites by Hilton Atlanta Perimeter Center has served as a prime film location and as a popular hub for lodging crews.
