Travel Coordinator Kalynn Dakin (Littleton) is Logistics in Motion
By Carol Badaracco Padgett
Coordinating travel for film and television production is a job filled with endless responsibilities—which suits Kalynn Dakin (Littleton) just right. The seasoned travel coordinator loves keeping busy and working as part of the crew.
Dakin began her film industry career in 2017, last year she worked as travel coordinator on eight episodes of series “The Bondsman” with Kevin Bacon [Amazon Prime Video, 2025]. And this year she worked on comedy film “Rolling Loud” with Owen Wilson, which is now in post-production.
We caught up with her to learn exactly what her role entails and why she’s drawn to such a demanding, everchanging industry.
Give us the highlights of a travel coordinator’s job.
Kalynn: We’re on a show from prep, filming, and wrap, and we handle all of the travel for the cast, crew, producers, studio executives, and anyone else on the production who may need it.
We handle the hotels, flights, rental cars, and if somebody's here for long-term, we're handling long-term arrangements, like fully furnished housing. If we're shooting in locations that [require] hotels for the crew, we're handling all of that, as well.
No matter where you’re working around metro Atlanta, what do you look for in vendors?
Kalynn: My contacts at Marriott, Hyatt, IHG and Protravel do a really good job of like supporting us on the hotel side. I also work closely with several production-focused realtors and, of course, our rental car vendors. My decisions [on which vendors to use] are more about the teams that I trust & the operations teams that are present for the day to day. The ones that I know are going to nail the arrivals, they're going to do a good job with the billing, and they’re going to support me.
For any reader who’s interested in cultivating a career in the film industry, what advice would you give them?
Kalynn: I would say, find someone who is doing the job that you want to do and is doing it well. That's how it happened for me. There was an amazing travel coordinator, Ashley Saunders, who brought me in as her assistant, and I learned everything from her. Then, within a couple of shows, I was [able to become] a travel coordinator.
I found someone who was doing the job that I wanted to do, and she was doing a damn good job at it, so I kind of latched on to that, learned everything I needed to learn, and as you will hear over and over again, it's about who you know. Everybody says that, but it's honestly true, especially in film. You're not putting in your application on a job board for these positions, you know?
What are your favorite productions you've worked on here in Georgia?
Kalynn: I really enjoyed working on Loki [Disney+ streaming series]; I did season one of that when it was in Atlanta.
Then, a recent favorite I really enjoyed working on was Peacemaker [HBO Max streaming series]—we did Season 2 of that in Atlanta.
On the productions I enjoy most, I think it has everything to do with the crew, and how well you're working together, the vibe, and how everybody treats everyone else.
Do you have any final thoughts to share?
Kalynn: I just hope things are picking up again for the film industry in Georgia! You hear people say that a lot lately, and I really hope it is the case.
