World-Class Services Act as an Alluring Concierge for Creatives
Discover Dunwoody and Assembly Studios are serving filmmakers the destination-locations, spaces, and amenities they need for serious work and play.
Here’s how in the words of Justin Campbell, vice president of studio operations at Assembly Atlanta.
Q: What’s most special about the synergistic relationship between Assembly Atlanta and its neighbor, the city of Dunwoody, just 12 minutes away?
Campbell: From the moment shovels hit the ground at Assembly—the city of Dunwoody and Discover Dunwoody, in particular, have been proactive in growing the relationship and connection between their city and Assembly. Many don’t recognize that in most cases, the majority of work and filming on productions takes place away from the stage—so having communities at-the-ready to engage with these productions makes Assembly an incredibly attractive destination.
Dunwoody offers all of the amenities that productions crave: diverse filming locations, top flight hotel accommodations, incredible dining and retail—all just minutes away. It was a natural connection, but further strengthened by the openness and engagement of the city to make it easy for productions to bring their business to Dunwoody.
Q: What film and television productions do you anticipate that Assembly Studios will bring to the area in 2025?
Campbell: We are very optimistic and excited about 2025 at Assembly. We are particularly looking forward to the premiere of “Beyond The Gates,” a modern soap opera that will air on Gray Media‘s WANF in late February. While I can’t give names of any other active productions at the moment, [I’m] excited to report that multiple major feature films and episodic series will be in production and filming both on lot and in the surrounding communities this year.
Q: What does Assembly Studios offer for productions that’s unique to what can be found in any other production facility and surrounding locale around the metro Atlanta area?
Campbell: On top of our world-class infrastructure and facilities here, we are incredibly proud to partner with Universal Production Services on site to bring their [immeasurable] experience and vast resources to both Assembly Studios and the Georgia film community at large. Through their expansive array of production services—ranging from cutting-edge grip and lighting equipment, transportation fleet, wardrobe rental, and [a] specialty fabrication shop—Assembly is truly a one-stop shop for the creative community.
Q: What reports do you hear from productions and film teams that stay in Dunwoody hotels and then come to work at Assembly each day while their projects are filming?
Campbell: I think the most consistent theme of the feedback centers around a few things, [such as] satisfaction with the quality of accommodation and service at the hotels, their prime location, and how vast and impressive their options are—whether it’s a place to eat or just something new and exciting to do. Developments like Politan Row or High Street are the types of accessible entertainment opportunities that our cast and crews seek out.
Q: Filming in Georgia is a treat for any production and its team—we hear that in Georgia over and over again from sources in LA and around the world. Break that down to a business perspective, both as head of studio operations at Assembly and considering other businesses’ profitability, such as the local hospitality industry and other production-related services in the area.
Campbell: The impact of a project is felt far and wide from the soundstage in which it is filmed. Georgia has ascended to a global leader in film and television production because it has an incredible local crew base, a pro-business climate, and the business infrastructure to meet the demands of these productions.
When fully booked out, Assembly not only offers jobs for thousands of Georgians, but these productions and crew members, in turn, spend their time and significant revenue across these businesses, large and small. From the local lumber yard to Perimeter Mall, to the hotels and vendors that supply these shows, it is a major economic engine for Assembly, Dunwoody, and the entire state of Georgia.
Q: Let’s finish with something fun. Is Dunwoody actually “fun,” and how does Assembly Atlanta help make it even more so? Why should tourists and locals come to visit?
Campbell: It’s not just a trendy nickname—Dunwoody is fun! My family and I often frequent Dunwoody and all it has to offer. Politan Row, Dunwoody Village, and of course, Perimeter Mall. The Green Eggs & Kegs [foodie festival] event is a can’t miss. Assembly supplements by giving the public visibility into the film and television industry and its many positive impacts in the state.
