Dunwoody Arts and Culture
Dunwoody, GA, is widely known for its shopping and variety of high-quality restaurants, but it’s also home to a strong community of creative people who are helping to foster a growing arts-and-culture scene in this enclave of Atlanta.
Stage Door Theatre is Dunwoody’s favorite nonprofit theatrical troupe, performing a full season of classic favorites with a twist, musical numbers, comedies and other entertaining works. The theater also strives to provide educational opportunities for young artists as well as adult workshops and offsite programming for all ages.
Theater enthusiasts can also enjoy on-stage entertainment from the Dunwoody United Methodist Church and Kingswood United Methodist Church performers, and the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA) features a wonderful Arts and Culture Program that includes everything from visual arts to moving live performances open to all.
The support for the Arts spans throughout local retailers and businesses as well who proudly display beautiful artwork provided by the Dunwoody Fine Arts Association. And, local restaurants like Eclipse di Luna host hands-on painting classes complete with gourmet snacks and drinks, the creative opportunities are ever evolving. Immerse yourself into the works of some of the most talented local artists in the area by visiting Dunwoody’s Spruill Center for the Arts and the Spruill Gallery, located in a historic farmhouse. This pillar of Dunwody’s arts community hosts creative workshops for locals and visitors, as well as a gallery of rotating exhibits, featuring considerable spaced dedicated to local artists and gifts for sale.
The City of Dunwoody’s efforts to include public art in the community have led to a mecca of murals, with new “Instagrammable” walls at Spuill Art Gallery and the Dunwoody MARTA station. These murals throughout the city reflect the bustling day-to-day life in Dunwoody and vibrancy of its citizens, inspiring both residents and visitors.
Dunwoody, Georgia, is also a quick train ride from downtown Atlanta, which offers cultural attractions like the Center for Civil and Human Rights, Center for Puppetry Arts, the High Museum of Art and much more. In fact, between local arts organizations and easy access to Atlanta, you can plan an entire visit to Dunwoody focused on exploring the arts.
